Roger Kuhns is a writer and scientist performing his original true-story dramatic/comedic monologues. Not to be
confused with travelogues, Kuhns' stories are dynamic performances of music and life experiences. His stories,
presented in artistic monologue form, have been inspired by the style of Spaulding Gray. These stories invite the
listener to see the world in a new and personal light by drawing them deeply into the places and cultures, geology
and ecology, and politics and business of Kuhns' global observations and the lives of those with whom he has
worked and traveled.
His music and writing has been featured on WPR’s Higher Ground with Jonathan Overby, as well as on FOX11’s
Morning Show and Door/Kewanee and Madison radio stations.
Also an author, Roger Kuhns holds a Ph.D. in geology, and has worked as a geologist, ecologist and writer
throughout the world. He has written over 100 scientific, feature, and original short story pieces for journals,
magazines and newspapers. Roger has also written and performed six complete monologues, numerous short
feature monologues and stories, and original music and lyrics.
Kuhns, who was born in Wisconsin, lived in Africa for 8 years, and worked extensively throughout western
Russia, China, India, and over 60 other countries. He has met with numerous global leaders throughout the world,
including Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. During those times he served on global-oriented committees that
sought to improve management of natural resources, environmental protection, and economic stability. Kuhns is a
frequent speaker at geological and environmental conferences, and teaches these subjects as a lecturer at several
university and adult education institutions, including University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Field Station, The
Clearing (Door County, WI), and Pennsylvania University (Department of Design, Philadelphia).
Kuhns has been writing and performing monologues for over ten years, and bases these true stories on his global
experiences. He has worked with seasoned director-actor-singer Ron Toebaas (Galena, Illinois). Kuhns also
wrote a monthly column about international cultures, music and business for a northeast Wisconsin newspaper
(The Door Voice) for a number of years; worked as a news director and special features program writer for a
Wisconsin radio station; and is a contributor to Door County Magazine and The Peninsula Pulse. As a musician
and performer Kuhns has produced two CDs, one of his original music (which won an honorable mention in a
South African music contest), and a second collaborative music-poetry live performance CD with poet and author,
Dave Jones. He has performed his material on Public Radio and regional midwestern radio and television stations
(WORT, Madison; WBDK and WDOR, Sturgeon Bay; FOX11 TV, Green Bay). Kuhns owned and managed the
music production company “musicTOears.com”, which produced seven music and live stage performance CDs.
Roger Kuhns currently lives in Mystic, Connecticut. From this base he continues to perform his monologues
nation-wide and manage a sustainable practices and environmental sciences company called SustainAudit.net.
